(TNND) — The “Crypto King”, John Woeltz, was arrested and charged on Friday with kidnapping a man and keeping him locked up for weeks.
Police say he kept the man, an Italian Bitcoin millionaire, locked up for weeks in his Manhattan apartment where he was beaten, shocked and led to believe his family was in danger, all so he would give up his Bitcoin password.
On Tuesday his business partner, also involved in the kidnapping, turned himself into New York City police.
William Duplessie, 33, was charged Tuesday with first-degree kidnapping, first-degree unlawful imprisonment, second-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
According to prosecutors, their victim was able to escape from the eight bedroom townhouse in SoHo where he was being held and flag down a traffic officer on the street.
The New York Post is reporting that he was allegedly severely beaten, drugged, shocked with electrical wires and threatened with death for nearly three weeks.
